After much thought, I have chosen to use the oil painting that I am currently working on, which is a painting of a photograph which I took of myself. I am going to attach this to a board shaped like a C, to then have the support on the bottom and the top platform to hang labels and objects down etc, or have a type of wardrobe with shelves in, where I have different objects that mean a lot to me and have my oil painting on the back wall and have labels and different things hanging down from the ceiling of the wardrobe.
I think this idea would link all of my ideas together because although I am not using video art within my final piece, I could video myself constructing my final piece once my oil painting is finished, which could act as an extra to my final design. This idea also links in the installation piece that I have been producing as the whole thing will be an installation.
This is what I have produced so far in terms of my oil painting:
The above images are images which I took to use for my oil painting. I wanted to use a recent picture so I took it on the way that I started my oil painting. I chose one of these images to use as my picture. I added a vintage filter to my picture before I started to paint it to add an effect of the 'warm memories' of the past and this worked particularly well. This is why there is a yellowy, creamy tiny to my painting.
I started off adding in the basic skin tone and shading to ensure that the oil painting looked as realistic as possible. I used different brush sizes to create this effect.
I then started to add in the eyebrows which I used a very fine brush for. Also, instead of black, I used a dark brown to stop them looking too harsh on my painting, which was the same for the eyelashes. To make the eyebrows look as realistic as possible, I made sure that the brush strokes which I used went in the same direction they did on the image.
I began to use the same thickness of brush to create the same effect on the eyelashes and use the same brush strokes as what appeared on the image to ensure that they were extremely realistic. I added a greeny/greyish colour into the corner of the eye to create the effect that the eye does go into a corner and that there is a slight shadow.
After I left the face to dry before carrying on with the left eyelashes, I started to block in the different hair colours which would act as a base before adding and blending in the fine detail.
It is coming along really well and I am very pleased with how it is turning out. I am loving working with oil paints as I love they way they blend together to create such a realistic effect. I will keep updating you with my progress.
