Adding Plaster to Dental Alginate Face Mould

After my ice sculpture didn't work, I decided to try something more solid, using a material that will hold together well and produce a high level of detail. I chose to use plaster after music thought of using resin and other materials, however I decided plaster would be the best.

I'd never used plaster before and watched it set, so this was a new experience for me. With the help of my teachers and classmates, we mixed up the plaster and water.
We then poured in the liquid plaster mix into my dental alginate face cast of my friend and waited for it to set. As it was setting it produced a lot of heat, which was really unusual to see as I wasn't expecting that, but it was very interesting and a funny texture.

I took some images of me adding the plaster to my sculpture:

This was the plaster as it started to set and my next blog poster explains how we revealing what was underneath.
