Tiles For Final Piece

I have now got the fireplace that I will be using for my final piece and I am over the moon with it - it is exactly what I wanted and it looks exactly like the one that I have used during my final designs.

I have placed the painting inside of the fireplace to see how big it is and how much space there is left around the edge:

After doing so, I now know that I need to make some tiles to fit around the painting to fill in the gaps between the the painting and the fireplace. For the tiles I have had the idea to use the template of one of the labels that I used for my installation piece and imprint the label onto the clay to create an outline. After this, I am hoping to add some writing to inside the label, either by scratching into it or using a stencil that can imprint words onto clay, to give the effect that a type-writer has just written the words onto it. The words that will be included in these are my memories that I have already written about throughout my folder and throughout my installation piece.

To create the stencil I used one of the labels that I used for my installation and I stencil around it onto flat cardboard. Once I'd done this, I then cut the stencil out with a stanley knife and ended up with my label made out of cardboard. I then cut out hole for the string and attached string to it. After this was complete, I got a lump of clay and rolled out it out using a rolling pin and wooden battons to ensure that the width of the tiles were the same for each one - this worked well.

This is what I created today to add onto my final piece:

As you can see, the detail that I was able to create with the string is incredible and this has turned out really nice.
