These were the images that I looked at before creating my piece:
I am unsure whether Sam intended to make these images have a deeper meaning, however this is what I interpreted. After thinking about her work and how I could link it into my project, I came up with this:
These images represent my life and the way that my mum stands behind me in life, holding me up and supporting me. I created these images in photoshop by taking an image of my mum and an image of me:
Once i'd done this, I placed them both into photoshop. Using my mum's picture (top) as the background, I used the magic wand tool in photoshop to cut out most of the background in the picture (bottom), and I then used the eraser tool to cut out around my body, leaving just me floating in my mum's picture:
After this, I was them able to easily shrink my body by holding in 'shift and t' and after i'd done this, I was then able to place my body on top of my mum's hands, as if she was lifting me up:
Although it obviously isn't real, I was able to them change the colour of my layer, which changed the brightness of my body, making it look like I was actually in the same place as my mum because my picture was taken inside and my mum's outside. After changing the contrast and brightness, I managed to match up the skin tones and this enabled the image to look more realistic. This is shown within my folder.
I really love this piece and I think when you look at it, it looks funny and means nothing, however when you actually step back and think about it, it actually does mean something and the deeper meaning begins to shine through.
