Jill McCarthy is an artist who uses personal drawings, photographs and every day items that make up her life. She also takes treasured fragments that are concealed within pages, such as her Grandmother's paper decoration from her wedding cake and old shopping lists that she wrote as an old lady. Although she is using items from her Grandmother, this links in fantastic with my memory theme, as she is thinking of old memories and also personal items that make her who she is today, much like I have been doing with my memory labels and video.
Her work is the detail of personal experience, the past and response to what she does now. She labels her work as "a kind of record or memorial", much like my work is.
So, Jill links in great with the past memories and gathering up treasured items that are meaningful.
